Those inexpensive top cases from JC Whitney are inexpensive for a reason. The latch/lock is thin plastic and won't tolerate any abuse at all. "Snap" goes the latch if you're not careful.
I was able to cut a couple aluminum strips and bolted/them over the two broken pieces and it seems to hold pretty good. I'll ride it to work tomorrow then home and if it holds ok, I'll epoxy it all up and call it good. Either way, I won't have to replace the top case for the trip even if the repair doesn't work out. I can still strap it closed, just won't be able to lock it that way.
